Situated in the heart of Heiltsuk Territory, British Columbia, Koeye Lodge holds deep cultural significance for the Heiltsuk people as it was once home to several of their villages along the Koeye River. Acquired in 2001 by the Heiltsuk through the Qqs Projects Society, a non-profit supporting youth, culture, and environmental stewardship, this acquisition marked a vital step in reclaiming and preserving their ancestral lands.

In 2004, Syntegrity was engaged to develop a comprehensive roadmap to transform an old fishing lodge into a premier eco-cultural wilderness tourism experience. Through extensive community engagement, the project ensured that Heiltsuk traditional values were deeply integrated into every aspect of the plan. This included funding opportunities assessments, phased development strategies, and detailed financial pro formas for sustainability. Additionally, a thorough go-to-market strategy, featuring market assessments, competitive analysis, value chain mapping, and participatory branding with the Heiltsuk community, positioned Koeye Lodge uniquely in the ecotourism sector.

The resulting five-year redevelopment plan solidified Koeye Lodge as a model of eco-cultural tourism, earning it the 2006 Aboriginal Tourism British Columbia Cultural Authenticity Award for its dedication to preserving and showcasing Heiltsuk culture through sustainable tourism.
